Careers support

Careers England has published Careers Guidance for young people – too much left to chance. The report, a survey of the impact of the Education Act 2011 on schools and the Careers Guidance Duty, found that there is “a picture of dramatic reductions in the volumes of professional careers guidance being secured externally by schools.” It found that only 16.5% of the 1500 schools surveyed have retained in 2012-13 the level of Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) they provided in 2011-12. The report concludes that, “the ill-defined statutory duty, coupled with minimalist Statutory Guidance, must be strengthened.”
