Youth homelessness

YMCA Derbyshire Chief Executive Gillian Sewell has written an open letter to Derby City Council asking it to rethink plans to reduce its Supporting People funding for homelessness services by 65 per cent. CYPNow reports that the council is considering proposals to cut its annual £9.4m Supporting People budget by £6.1m by 2014.

YMCA England Chief Executive Ian Green has said that the 11 per cent cut to the Supporting People programme and the abolition of ring fencing for the scheme mean that vulnerable young people are more likely to face homelessness. He added that these vulnerable young people would also suffer greatly from the impending welfare reform changes.
