Childcare providers

Families and children charity 4Children has published the results of its ‘Out of School Childcare Survey‘. It found that these services face “serious potential threats to [their] future viability” as a result of spending cuts and falling parental income. The study of 492 providers of breakfast, after-school and holiday clubs found that 10% of respondents said they may have to shut down this year, while a further 15% are unsure if they will open next year and are awaiting funding decisions. The report suggested services were threatened by the “unprecedented rise in running costs experienced by some providers as a result of changes to local charging policy.”
