OCS Strategic Partners part 2

NCVYS member Community Matters will not receive further funding from the Office for Civil Society’s strategic partnership programme, and will cut more than half of its staff. Community Matters received £261,603 from the programme in 2010/11, which amounted to 16% of its total income. Community Matters has said that it will continue to exist for at least another year, but that the future beyond this “is now in question.”

NCVYS member Urban Forum also heard that it would not receive further funding from the programme. Chief Executive Toby Blume has expressed concern about the programme’s ability to “effectively and accurately represent the voice of small, localised organisations and those representing people with protected characteristics.” He noted on his blog the “complete absence of [funding for] any particular equalities groups”.

The Mentoring and Befriending Foundation (MBF) was also unsuccessful in securing funding for the period 2011-2013. They previously received £1m and have gone through a restructuring exercise which has reduced staff numbers from 32 to 14.
