Teenage pregnancy services finishing

A CYP Now investigation has revealed that councils are unable to commit to keeping teenage pregnancy co-ordinators. The investigation revealed that roughly three in five teenage pregnancy co-ordinator posts are under threat in England.

NCVYS member Platform 51 will see two of its programmes for teenage parents finishing at the end of March due to a lack of funding. Young Parents To Be and Parents With Prospects are both currently funded by NHS Nottingham and despite positive feedback from participants and the NHS the funding is not going to be extended. The Young Parents to Be course helps educate and support pregnant teenagers and their partners up to the birth. The Parents with Prospects course is for young mums or dads after their baby is born.

Two other teenage pregnancy services in Nottingham are also expected to end in the next two months. The Foundations Consortium, which offers support for teenage parents to set up and stay in their own homes, is expected to end in mid-April after Nottingham City Council said it was cutting all funding.
