The Local Government Association has published the Local Government Finance Report 2011-12. The report estimates that local government faces a funding gap in the order of £6.5 billion in 2011-12. It estimates that the top-slicing of local authorities to fund the Academies programme will mean a cut of £350m from non-schools budgets such as child protection and youth provision, and that this “comes at a time when the money available for early intervention is reduced by 25%.” It estimates that over the next two years the cuts to non-schools budgets will be £413m.
