Youth volunteering charity staff cuts

NCVYS member v, the National Young Volunteers’ Service, is “consulting its staff on proposals for restructuring which could result in the loss of up to 33 posts. The proposed new structure envisages 32 posts remaining, excluding some posts which are time limited and linked to specific funding streams.

v will continue to receive a small amount of funding from the Office of Civil Society to cover some of its core costs in inspiring young people to get involved in social action projects. However, the restructure is necessary because funding linked to implementing the Russell Commission recommendations finishes at the end of March 2011.”

According to Third Sector magazine, v will no longer act as a grant-maker to other voluntary organisations, but might bid for funding from the OCS budgets for volunteering infrastructure and match funding for volunteering projects, worth £42.5m and £10m respectively.
