Support organisations for young people

Get Connected has suggested that an increasing numbers of organisations that offer practical help to young people are closing each week. Get Connected, a charity that signposts young people across the UK to services ranging from support with housing to help with substance abuse, said that its records show that in the past financial year an average of three to four organisations a week disappeared from its network of organisations.

Chief executive of the organisation Fiona Clark said, “The [economic situation] is cutting a swathe through the numbers of support organisations we can put a young person in contact with. At the same time, we are seeing an upswell in demand from young people looking for help… The smaller the network of referral organisations becomes, the more difficult it will be for us to offer timely help to the thousands of young people who contact us each year.”
