School sports part 2

There is uncertainty around the future of funding for school sports. During a parliamentary debate on school sports funding Andy Burnham MP, Shadow Education Secretary, argued that ending the School Sports Partnerships would “deprive children of the many health, wellbeing and educational advantages they gain from school sport.”

Following the debate, Prime Minister David Cameron is reported to be revisiting the decision, in recognition of concerns being raised at a local level. However, a Department for Education spokesperson said, “David Cameron is taking a close interest in the issue but that is not a U-turn. The decision around the £162m and the sports strategy has been made and will not be reversed.”
