Regional Youth Work Units

The future of the seven regional youth work units (RYWU), which link statutory and voluntary youth organisations through regional events, sharing of best practice and participation work, is uncertain. Two units have already closed, and with all part-funded by local authorities, which face average budget cuts of around 20% to their children and youth services, some units are already facing cuts to their projects. CYPNow gives further details on the possibilities for each unit. There is some optimism, however, with the chief executive of the RYWU for the South West suggesting that the government’s decision to axe government offices and regional development agencies might provide RYWUs with opportunities to pick up work government offices have done before.
