London

The Capital Community Foundation, which supports and funds small community groups and charities in London, has published The Age of Austerity. This is a briefing on the impact of the funding cuts on London’s charities and community groups. The report echoes many of the points made in Comprehensive Cuts, the report launched this week by NCVYS.

NCVYS member CommUNITY Barnet has expressed concern about Barnet Council‘s potential reduction in funding for children’s services, and the impact of this on the voluntary and community youth sector. CommUNITY Barnet estimate that if just nine of the 150 organisations it represents lose their funding 10,000 children in Barnet would be affected. CommUNITY Barnet is also concerned that the council will choose larger organisations that can deliver big-budget projects, over smaller charities that better understand the needs of the local area.
